Rita C. is married and the mother of two children, Jasmyne (5) and Matheus(2). Both children have medical issues. Her daughter, Jasmyne, contracted a brain infection as a newborn which left her with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, right-sided weakness and global developmental delays. She also has a seizure disorder, is nonverbal, and needs PediaSure because she does not eat solid food. Rita has encountered problems with her daughter’s insurance because of the nearly $500 a month expense for the PediaSure. Her son, Matheus, also has behavioral problems and some speech delay. Rita’s husband, Evaldo, was manager of a pizza restaurant before being deported back to Brazil in July 2011. After the loss of Evaldo’s income, their sole means of support was a small SSI check for Jasmyne and Rita and her two children were eventually evicted from their home and currently live in a shelter. Rita says the company has offered to re-hire Evaldo if he is able to get a co-sponsor and return to the United States, but in the meantime she struggles to get the money to register her car so she can take her children to their medical appointments, pay a storage bill, pay for cell phone internet so she and the children can have some contact with Evaldo, and to try to save for the security deposit and first month’s rent on a place that will be a better and healthier environment for her children. Rita really needs our help.
They need: $1000 Medical Assistance; $1000 Rent Deposit Assistance; $1000 Basic Needs
